Family Fun Time!

I'm not sure if I should really admit this, but the after Christmas lull is one of my favourite times of year at Neuk Hoose. Its the time of year when the house is quiet and there are free weekends when we as a family can go and stay and have our own self catering holiday in fife.
Although the house is meticulously checked every week it is only by actually staying there, sleeping in the beds, lighting the fire and putting your feet up in front of the telly that you really know what needs doing and what we could do to make our guests stays even better.
I love that we now have our little rituals and routines when we stay in the house. Arriving at the house straight from school/work, easy supper, light the fire, glass of wine and relax. Next morning whoever gets up to walk the dog stops off at the coop to pick up the freshly baked croissants, pain au chocolat and the news papers, I would say they are the best croissants outside of Paris. Then its out for a wee wander around Crail to see "whats new" always finishing up at the pocket money shop The Beehive for the children whilst mummy goes to the wholefoods shop, the greengrocers/fish shop and the butcher to stock up with goodies. An afternoons serious rockpooling works up a good appetite for another family ritual, fish, chips and fizz (see pic below) What a treat!
After a leisurly sunday morning we pack up and head to St Andrews for a blast along the beach, guaranteed to blast away any cobwebs and set you up for the week ahead. A little retail therapy next, for a small costal town St Andrews punches well above its weight for decent shops, Jack Wills, Waterstones, Fat Face, H&M, Monsoon, Rohan, Superdry, Ness, Whitestuff and that is only the chain stores there are a wealth of funky independant shops selling everything from leather satchels to vintage clothing. An early family tea then home, only to immediately plan when we can come again.
