Grandparents should be taken on family holidays, the minister responsible for tackling loneliness has said.

Mims Davies the new Sport and Civil Society minister told the Sunday Telegraph recently that communities had a "moral duty" to stop the elderly feeling abandoned. A 2017 report has said that loneliness is as harmeful to health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

We at Hoose HQ couldn't agree more, part of the reason for snapping up Tappit Hoose when it came on the market was to enable just this idea. Tappit Hoose is a few steps across a narrow lane and it's the ideal place to house the Grandparents, all on one level and a short walk to the local shops and cafes.

We have road tested taking the grandparents away with us and I'm pleased to report that there were no major casualties and a great time was had by all. We are very lucky that our children have such young, fit and able Grandparents and it was such a joy to wave them off across the road at 7am to go and have breakfast with Grandma. Grandpa loved taking them off to have sneaky ice creams from The Beehive, hubby and I even managed to go and have a drink together. The best of all however was just wandering around together, taking the dogs to the beach, mooching around the shops and eating some more ice cream. Sounds corny but making memories the children will cherish forever.

Are you suffering from Christmas fatigue already? Summer holidays seem a long time away? Why not treat yourself to a January break at Neuk Hoose, a cheeky few days away.....

The log burning stove in the living room will keep you toasty warm after a bracing walk along the beach, or just to lounge on after a good lunch.

The Fife Costal Path is if anything more interesting in the Winter, the waves crashing, a dramatic skyline, and the promise of a warm cosy fire on your return.

So go on, let yourself recharge, get away from it all and have a bit of us time.

The Michelin guide for this year has just been published and typically London has the Lion's share of the stars. However Scotland and indeed our wee county of Fife punches well above it's weight in terms of starred eateries.

In Fife alone we have The Peat Inn which is 10 miles from Neuk Hoose and The Cellar in Anstruther which is a 4 mile walk along the Fife Costal Path.

The Peat Inn now owned and run by Geoffry and Katherine Smeddle and has had a star since the mid 1980s, Geoffry's cooking has been descirbed as witty and elegent with polished surroundings. You can have a very reasonable three course set lunch for £25.

Billy boyter at the Cellar in Anstruther produces some outstanding food in his small unpretentious restaurant, a real gem to have within walking distance.

Nearby St Andrew's has a wealth of eateries, with the establishments below receiving a mention in the Michelin guide

The Adamson

The Seafood Restaurant

The Rusacks Hotel

The Grange Inn

Just outside St Andrews

The Newport in Newport on Tay

Tayberry in Broughty Ferry

Castlehill in Dundee

Craig Millar in St Monans

So that's Fife, it's not hard to see why the county champions itself as a foodies destination. Edinburgh is about an hours drive away and it has it's fair share of stars to choose from

Restaurant Martin Wishart in Leith, a culinary institution and real heavy weight of the Edinburgh cooking scene.

No 1 at The Balmoral, this Rocco Forte owned hotel has held it's star for 16 years and is the epitome of old school style and glamour.

21212 is housed in an elegant four storey townhouse where Paul Kitching ever changing edgy menu will have you wanting to come back time and time again.

Last but by no means least is the fabulous The Kitchin run by husband and wife team Paul and Micheala Kitchin. They burst onto the scene in 2006 and were quicly awarded a star in 2007 and they have remained true to their mantra "from nature to plate" ever since.

Crail is the ideal place to base yourself from for your foodie holiday in Fife, inbetween eating you can walk up an appetite along The Fife Costal Path or on the many local beaches.
